Hi there!
I hope the current Google Update is treating you well
If you’re lucky, you may have some of your traffic back.
But even if you do, then you’ll probably still be waaay down on where you were this time last year, right?
I was interested to see this study of 671 travel blogs.
My blog was mentioned as being in the TOP 10 for ‘most recovery’.
Yet it’s still down 70% year on year. 😂
Luckily, I added a few hundred articles that consistently get traffic from Facebook and email.
So everything is just fine.
Better than fine, the site brought in $34,164 last month. 🎉
If you’d like to know more about this strategy then stick around…
Because today, I’m going to share some examples from my new social-first niche site that the team at Web Asset Builders created for me.
Why social first?
Whether you want to attract organic search traffic or not, relying 100% on Google is dangerous AF.
Instead, it’s wise to add at least two other channels.
You already know this.
With social-first content, I’m creating evergreen, long-form articles that perform well on a variety of channels.
We share each new article:
- Every 1-2 months on Facebook
- By email in the welcome sequence for new subscribers
- Via Facebook ads (only the top performers)
Unlike SEO which takes months/years, this strategy works straight away.
(I might add on search-optimised articles later, and these should perform much better on a site that already has traffic.)
Social-first content is a no-brainer.
I don’t have much free time, so I outsourced the whole project to Web Asset Builders.
I’m really pleased with their work.
You can see the site here for yourself to see how good the articles are.
They did everything – design, build, research, content creation, images, internal links, etc.
The initial results are exciting…
We’ve shared one article per day to Facebook for just over a month now.
The articles are on a repeating posting schedule that runs on autopilot.
So far, we’ve had 3,577 pageviews on the website from Facebook alone.
These initial results are the very tip of the iceberg, some of the posts haven’t even been shared once yet!
I’m excited to scale it!
I’m only posting links to articles once per day, but with enough content on the site, I will post 10x per day or more (repeating each one monthly)
I spent <$1,000 on ads to rapidly grow the Facebook page to 15,000 followers.
Now that the FB content reaches over 1 million people per month, the audience will continue to snowball without further investment.
The funnel
This site isn’t yet monetised, but when it is, here’s how a typical user journey will look…
See FB ad and ‘Like’ the FB page 👍
🔻
Engage with memes on FB (💰 from Bonus Program)
🔻
See article on FB, click to read on website (💰 from ads)
🔻
Grab a free PDF by signing up to email newsletter ✉
🔻
Open email, click through to website, build trust 👀
🔻
Open another email, buy product (💰 from affiliate)
Depending on your niche and audience, your split of income from the FB Bonus Program, display ads and affiliates will vary.
With a UK audience, I don’t plan to make much from FB or ads (the RPMs are quite low and the audience is fairly small).
For me, affiliate will be the big money maker, particularly with subscriptions that offer recurring income.
But if you target a larger pool of people in the US, you could do better with a focus on display ads.
The best part?
This whole project is hands-off, evergreen and automated.
I want to say a massive thanks to Web Asset Builders who have taken care of everything on the site.
I’m so excited to add more content and watch it grow without me having to lift a finger!
If you have any questions about their services, please reply to this email and I’ll be happy to share more details.
Niche sites aren’t dead. They’re just different now. And I’m here for it 100%. 🥂
Love,
– NSL
P.S. You’ll see that the articles have lots of comments on them.
I’m using hyper-realistic AI comments to start the conversation and then real people have been joining in.
Soon, I’ll place display ads in the comments section for an income boost.
Here’s the plugin I use if you’d like to add that to your site.
