#83 | He changed my life

Hello!

Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate.

I hope you’re having a relaxing day doing whatever makes you happiest.

I’m going to keep this one (relatively) light and share something I learned from YouTube that changed my life…

Via his YouTube channel, Miles Beckler introduced me to the concept of lifestyle design.

It’s the idea that you can design your dream life to be whatever you want it to be.

I wanted a husband, two kids, a dog and a house with a view of the ocean.

I’m very lucky to have all of those things.

And while luck certainly plays a big role, a lot of it comes down to lifestyle design.

Some parts of lifestyle design are easy – like buying a dog.

Some parts are more complicated – the house by the sea first required having the money to move to an area where houses cost double what I was used to.

Getting that money required having my own business.

And there are, of course, many, many steps involved in that.

But a few years ago, I sat down with a pen and paper, and followed Miles’ process to design my dream life.

The end of the year is a good time to take a walk, leave your earphones at home and think about what your perfect life would look like.

  • Where would you like to wake up in the morning?
  • What does the bedroom look like?
  • What time is it?
  • Who’s next to you in the bed?
  • What do you have for breakfast?
  • What do you do after that and throughout the day?

Miles’ strategy involves imagining your perfect day, and then working backwards to figure out the exact steps you need to take to make that your reality every day.

He works about ten hours a week and spends most of his time in the wilderness in his luxury RV.

How much money do you need to make for that to be your reality?

Let’s say you need $25k per month…

(When I first did this exercise a few years ago I thought that was a crazy number, I now know it’s not).

And let’s say your business is online publishing via a niche website.

How much traffic do you need?

Well, if your RPM is $50, you need 500,000 visitors.

How many posts do you need on your blog for that?

1,000 is a good number.

Now think about how good does each post have to be? How much time do you need to invest in each one? How many team members do you need to help you achieve that?

Once you have all that down, give yourself a number of years to get to the perfect life scenario.

5 is good. You might prefer 3, if you’re already on the path.

Next, break if down by year.

How much do you need to be making in year 4, year 3, year, 2 and year 1?

Remember, the line on the graph won’t be flat, it will curve up like this.

So, let’s say you’re starting from zero,

By the end of year 1, you want to have 200 posts on your blog.

Now, let’s break it down my month.

In the first month, you’re going to create 17 posts.

Now, this bit is important…

You can’t just throw up 1,000 blog posts and expect to make $25k per month.

(Despite what the YouTube gurus tell you)

If you could, everyone would be doing it, right?

You also need to master a whole lot of skills.

You need to master content writing, SEO, email marketing, social media, recruiting, people management, time management and a shit ton of other things.

And the way you master all those? By doing them.

You do something, it sucks, you go back and do it again, and again, and again, until it doesn’t suck.

Then see what’s working well, you do more of that. But you never stop learning and testing new things.

All of this needs to be in your plan.

And it needs to be broken down so you know exactly what to work on this week, this month and this year.

Feeling overwhelmed?

Don’t be.

Miles explains all of this much better than me.

He’s made 830+ YouTube videos explaining concepts like this, so he’s gotten to be extremely good at it!

He has step-by-step guides you can follow to get it all worked out.

I’m sharing this because it worked for me.

I’m not an affiliate (everything is free anyway) and Miles doesn’t even know I’m sending this.

I had $25k/month on my plan a few years ago.

I didn’t really believe I could do it, but I made the plan anyway.

I executed it, and it worked!

I want the same success for you.

Type ‘Miles Beckler perfect life’ into YouTube and there are quite a few videos there that can help you.

This is the one with the printable sheet where you write it all down.

Happy New Year!

See you in January.

P.S. Have you fixed your Amazon Site Stripe images before they all disappear in a few days?

In case you haven’t, the easiest way (by far) is with Lasso.

I did all of mine in one click. It saved me days!

So if you don’t have time to do them one by one, this is for you.

P.S. Here’s how I can help you:
